Pg Hjh Masratu, proprietor of Sayangku Child Care, said while the demand for her day care centre has grown over the years, she has to limit the enrollment to 30 or 38 children due to space constraints.
“Parents are seeking more child care services because it’s difficult to hire maids nowadays which can cost up to $3,000 in the recruitment process alone,” she said.
She said working parents avail of day care services because they don’t want to burden the grandparents with child care duties.
Her day care only caters to children aged below five years old, but there are also parents who still want to send their older children there as they are busy with their work.
Ak Md Muttaqi, spokesperson of Sayangku Child Care, said the day care has included Islamic teachings in its early childhood development programme.
“We have one graduate from UNISSA (Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali) who works part-time. She teaches Islamic values to the kids and this can shape moral values of the children,” he said.
