The TUG is used extensively to test
functional ability and has excellent criterion validity
and test-retest reliability (r = .97; Podsiadlo &
Richardson, 1991; American College of
Rheumatology, 2008; Kratz, Schepens, & Murphy,
2013).
The TUG is reported to have moderate to
high correlations to other measures of balance and
function: Berg Balance Scale (r = -.81), gait speed
(-.61), and the Barthel Index of Activities of Daily
Living (r = -.78) (Podsiadlo & Richardson, 1991).
