3.1 Dependent Variable: Occupational Risk Measures
3.1.1 The work-related injury rates
The most common indicator for measuring risks at work is the fatality rate (number of death workers for every 100,000 workers). For its calculation, the information needed for the numerator can be found in the Spanish Statistics on Accidents at Work (EAT). It is based on administrative registrations of occupational accidents reported by employers (when the injured is an employee) or by the worker her/himself (when the injured is self- employed). They are collected by the labor authorities (Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs). The denominator of the incidence rate is usually calculated using information from Spanish Labor Force Survey (EPA). Although the fatally rate is commonly calculated on the basis of the data sources described above, certain problems are detected when working with lower levels of aggregation.
