1. Real life centred
From the very first year of the study programme, we work whenever possible with real life assignments in which students have direct contact with the professional field. In this way, students will encounter ‘21st century skills’, such as being entrepreneurial and working in multidisciplinary collaboration. In addition, VHL students are educated in order to contribute to a sustainable world.
2. Freedom of choice within the study programme
Freedom of choice within the study programme offers students the possibility to take responsibility for their own studies by using their own knowledge, learning style, needs and interests. This freedom of choice is linked to the final competences of the study programme.
3. Diversity
In the study programme, the personal learning styles of students are taken into account. This means that in the curriculum, information is offered in various ways, different teaching methods are used in which students actively engage with the study material in different forms and different types of testing are used. Students are personally guided in their development with the assistance of study mentors. In addition, each programme offers talented students the ability to Intensify and diversify their knowledge in that field.
4. Up-to-date use of digital resources
The use of digital resources in our education is in line with the increasing use of information technology in society. It provides new opportunities to facilitate daily education and provide challenging and contemporary education. Digital education allows for education which is customised to the individual student and peer learning
5. Applied (or practical) research, internationalisation and sustainability in the final competences
All programmes determine, often in national consultation and always in consultation with the professional field, what professional competences (knowledge, skills and attitude) graduates should possess and therefore should learn in the programme. Research, internationalisation and sustainability are central to the mission and vision of VHL. These aspects are therefore demonstrably included in the final competences of all programmes.
