This review compiled and analyzed available data on the occurrence
of POPs, including those targeted by the Stockholm Convention
such as organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), polychlorinated biphenyls
(PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), polychlorinated
dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs),
perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoate (PFOA), in
China’s waters. The compiled information was synthesized to characterize
production and nationwide vs. regional use patterns, input
sources, and the potential for human health and ecological risk.
