Early on April 13, the people both young and old in their new clothes go to the Wat or monastery in their village or distict to offer food to the monks there. In big cities like Bangkok or Chiang Mai, the most respectful Buddha image is carried in a procession along the streets to an open space for people to sprinkle water on to show their respect.
Songkarn is also the time for the members of a family usually scattered in faraway places, to have a chance to stay , enjoy, and celebrate together in a family reunion the young express their respects to the elders by pouring scented water onto the hands of their parents and grandparents, sharing good wishes and asking for blessing in a tradition called ‘’rod nam dam hau. ‘’ the elders in return wish the young good luck and prosperity.
