The analysis of harmonicity, involving the processing of multiple tonal elements on the basis of periodicity, is not only recognized as a primary ability in the identification and segregation of sounds originating from different sources, but also plays a key role in both music and speech perception. The perception of harmonicity can be examined using discrimination task that involve the fusion of multiple tonal elements into a single sound “object” or the segregation of a mistuned element as separate auditory object.
