Dr. Sai Mauk Kham, Vice President of Myanmar, visited Thailand upon the invitation made by the Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Minister of Foreign Affairs. The purpose of his visit was to observe Thailand's public health administration as Myanmar was looking for an appropriate scheme for its public health development. PM Prayut officially welcomed the Vice President of Myanmar and expressed his delight toward tight-knitted relations and cooperation between Thailand and Myanmar which had made progress in all aspects. The Vice President of Myanmar reaffirmed that current relations between the two countries were now at its best.
On public health cooperation, Thailand underscored the importance of development of quality of life, public health, and people's wellbeing. Thailand had Social Security Fund and health security, as well as systemized public health administration in rural areas. Myanmar could use Thailand as an example and study its model. Myanmar also thanked Thailand for providing public-health support and donating medicines to Myanmar hospitals. At present, Myanmar encountered shortage in medical and public health personnel and called for exchange in relevant knowledge and information on contagious diseases with Thailand through educational institutions and at a university level.
Expansion of small hospitals in Dawei was also addressed. Most recently, Thailand had summited a project proposal to Myanmar and requested that Myanmar accelerates consideration to commence construction soon. This would promote community development in areas covered by the Dawei Special Economic Zone Development
On labor cooperation, Thailand thanked the Myanmar government for cooperating with Thailand in nationality verification. PM Prayut realized an increase in demand for laborers in Thailand, especially in the fishery and construction industries. He proposed that a joint center for medical checkup and contagious diseases be established in support of Myanmar workers in Thailand. Myanmar agreed to the idea and proposed the establishment of the disease screening centers in three border areas: Tachileik, Myawaddy, and Kawthaung.
On trade and investment, following his visit to Myanmar, the Prime Minister had encouraged Thai businesses to invest more in the country. Currently, investment from Thailand ranked second in Myanmar. The Myanmar government was requested to take care of Thai investors.
In addition, H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's visit to Myanmar was discussed. PM Prayut asked the Myanmar government to facilitate the royal visit of Her Royal Highness during February 1-3, 2016. The Vice President of Myanmar said Myanmar was ready to welcome Her Royal Highness and expressed his appreciation toward Her Royal Highness's divine grace for supporting Myanmar people's livelihood, especially in terms of public health.
Both leaders also discussed progress of cooperation in various areas, such as connectivity and border development, the Dawei Special Economic Zone Development, and tourism. Travelers of both countries visit each other's country more frequently. Cross-country cycling, in particular, has become popular. The Myanmar government promised to care for safety protection for tourists joining the activity.
The Prime Minister stated with confidence that the visit to Thailand would benefit Myanmar in terms of public health development. He also recommended the group to observe operation at Bhumirajanakarindra Kidney Institute Hospital which emphasizes on knowledge sharing, prevention and treatment.
