landmark
“He” was created as a centre piece for the main harbour in Elsinore with a central location between Kronborg Castle, the new maritime museum, The Culture Yard and the city. The sculpture stands prominently as a landmark to orientate oneself from afar but also deserves closer inspection. From here, an ambiguity in its appearance becomes apparent.
When looking at the sculpture, the viewer’s body and surroundings are re ected in a scattered mo- saic from its shiny, curved surface. The re ections become just as alluring as the sculpture itself. Occasionally, the re ective ashes will create the illusion of life behind the young man’s eyes, but the event is eeting and unpredictable, bestowed only on those who are lucky and patient. Despite its central location, “He” embodies a sense of mystery and ambiguity within its grandeur and durability, as so often accompanies such charismatic landmarks.
