processing, the fruit should have small seed, thin skin, thick aril that separates easily from
seed coat, firm and able to withstand processing operation without losing flavour and
appearance. The quantity of rambutan exported in 2000 was 6,960 tones valued at 4.8
million ringgit and the amount imported was 2,600 tones value d at 1.7 million ringgit. At
present, Malaysian is a net exporter of rambutan mainly to Singapore, Brunei and some to
Taiwan and Hong Kong (Sarip et a|,2002).
