Dear Students,
Apparently, a clarification is needed for those students who came to see me last Friday Oct 21.
First check my course syllabus regarding work and grades.
Next, as a matter of privacy to the students, I was concerned about a few students that had the lowest grades in the class and were in threat of failing the class.
Thus I allowed the to earn enough points to pass at 50%. To those students who do not understand, I failed to explain there is a significant difference in helping a student to pass the class as opposed to moving a student up a grade level.
To pass the pass a student needed a raw score of 50%. Thus if you passed at 50%, you do not have the same situation as above, to pass the class.. Student you have passed the class.
I am sorry that you feel that you should also earn the same opportunity. However, student(s) you have passed class with 50% or better.
What I am am extremely sorry is that somehow some students may feel I am to blame for there low grade because I did not allow them same opportunity. Simple student(s) the responsibility for your points and grade was your own personal effort.
Specifically, many students know where the problems with points, let me remind you then: Book Check 1, Book Check 2, Student Food Review Product, Part 1 of the Final. That was you opportunity to make your points.
The quality of those assignments was extremely poor to no points. That is where points and grades were lost.
Lastly, it was brought to my attention that a student went from a D+ to a C+.. Again the student's privacy will be maintained. The student was missing a TEST score, I called her in and discussed it, resolved the issue, and the score that was missing for her test was enough to increase her grade.
I trust this clears up any misunderstanding and that my decision to help a few student pass at 50%, thereby passing the course meets your approval of fairness and the instructor's judgement.
A Robb
