Resource management are problems on how and when to optimally
utilize the limited available resources. Some examples of
these resources are vehicles (e.g. planes and trucks), trailers, rail
cars, locomotives, containers, equipments, crew, power, etc. Once
a resource is allocated to an activity, it is no longer available for
certain duration. Moreover, when it becomes available again, it is
often at a different location where it is not needed (Crainic,
2003). Empty loading unit repositioning and fleet management
problems are more specific variants of resource management
problems.
