According to Sternberg is the result of intimacy and decision/commitment without passion. Companionate love can be seen in long-lasting marriages in which physical passion has ceased, but the bonds between the partners remain strong, or in long-lasting close friendships. In contrast, fatuous, or mindless, love has components of passion and decision/commitment but lacks intimacy. Relationships built on fatuous love may not be lasting because no emotional bond between the partners is present.
