This may be a bit premature for you, but you should start thinking about this. I shared the following with the current MUICT students a few minutes ago.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Attention ALL MUICT STUDENTS: I have just received a message from one of your seniors, an MUICT alumna. I thought it was very important so I am going to share a summary of her message with all of you.
She says that she spoke to her boss yesterday about the resumes of this year's soon-to-be graduates. She is one of the first people to review the resumes and it is very hard for her to convince here boss why she should invite many of you in for an interview. Here is what her boss says:
THE RESUMES ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH and do NOT demonstrate one's accomplishments and work abilities!!
Here are some of the reasons:
1. NO work experience is listed.
2. NO clubs or activities are listed.
3. NO examples of leadership are shown.
4. NO projects are listed (this could include senior projects and class projects.
5. NO volunteer work is listed.
6. NO demonstration of abilities are shown (this could include passing the TOEIC, IELTS, or TOEFL, MOS certifications, etc.)
I have been telling you for years that the university experience is MUCH MORE than your work in the classroom. You need to GET INVOLVED with the university. You need to GAIN work experience. You need to develop MEASURABLE and DEMONSTRATIVE skills. You need to SHOW your accomplishments.
So, ladies and gentlemen. Step away from your computers. Get involved with student organizations, clubs, and activities. Join competitions. Step up into leadership roles. Become certified in your area(s) of expertise. Get a high TOEIC score. Make yourselves STAND OUT from everyone else. SHOW THE WORLD HOW GOOD YOU ACTUALLY ARE.
If you need advice about any of this, seek out a mentor....a senior, an alumnus, a teacher....someone who can advise you on how to better prepare yourselves for life after graduation.
