The inverted champagne bottle-shaped leg
caused by lipodermatosclerosis is associated
with induration, redness and pain in the
acute phase, but does not include symptoms
of pyrexia, heat and tenderness associated
with systemic infection. The patient will
give a venous history of, for example, DVT,
varicose veins or a family history of leg
ulcers. This condition tends to develop
slowly over time, unlike the rapid onset of
cellulitis, and is more likely to be bilateral
