Assistant Chief Engineer
Job Description
Assist with the responsibility for maintaining the hotel’s appearance, equipment and systems.
This position involves the supervision of all work and repairs being performed in the absence of the Chief Engineer. Receive daily work assignments from the Chief Engineer and review priorities and special projects.
Perform electrical, plumbing, HVAC, preventative maintenance work orders.
Working knowledge of electrical codes, national/local fire codes, local mechanical codes, blue prints and wiring schematics, power and hand tools, meters, etc. as it relates to the technical trades.
Monitor and maintain all laundry equipment. Knowledge of proper chemical handling and disposal.
Assist other engineering personnel with routine and preventive maintenance.
Assist with maintaining effective communication and feedback with departmental staff.
Assist with the supervision of outside contractors performing work on the hotel premises.
Assist with maintaining effective cost controls within the department.
Ability to endure abundant physical movements in carrying out job duties.
Ability to remain unseated during any assigned shift. Ability to climb ladders and operate high reach lifts.
Ability to be a clear thinker in pressure situations and exercise good judgment.
Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English with guests, management and co-workers to their understanding.
Ability to provide legible communication. Ability to do basic arithmetic.
Ability to focus attention on details. Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments; delegate work.
Ability to direct performance of assigned staff and follow-up with corrections where needed. Ability to enforce hotel’s standards, policies and procedures with assigned staff.
Ability to motivate assigned staff and maintain a cohesive team.
Handle guest complaints ensuring guest satisfaction.
Additionally, to support our company’s “Quality Pledge” and actively practice “Our Big Three” in all interactions with guests and team members alike. Complete additional duties/tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
Minimum two years experience in same or similar position. High school or technical school diploma.
