Safety. Unprescribed contact with some pharmaceuticals can pose safety hazards
to pharmacy workers or residents (Smith, 2004). Some drugs are skin contact
hazards; some have dusts that are inhalation hazards. Reactions among certain substances are possible. Liquids may be hard to control. Spills could be difficult to
clean up. While some programs address privacy and controlled substance
requirements with procedures that involve opening drug containers, the safest
approach is to keep containers closed.
