Wat Phra That Doi Wao where is located on a hill by the bank of Mae Sai River. which offers great views into Mae Sai city and Tha Kee Lek (Myanmar,the mountains)
The Prince Wao built this temple in 179 B.C. and pagoda for the remains of Lord Buddha. It is one of the Oldest pagodas in Chiangrai, almost as old as Doi Tung Pagoda.
You can park your car at the approach of stair of the Temple or can drive to the pagoda.
Little tip for visiting: the stairway up the hill is a real killer, so don't feel bad and just take the motorcycle taxi for 10 Baht! The temple buildings on the base of the mountain are relatively new but still worth visiting.
