Collaboration Processes
Across course and interview transcripts, two themes that characterized initial pre-service teachers’ conversations emerged. These were (a) the co-construction of analysis of student thinking and learning and (b) the co-construction of instructional improvements. Pre-service teachers were given a transcript of an exchange between a teacher and a student
concerning the solution to a math problem, and they were asked to discuss the teacher questioning strategies. Below is a short segment of the discussion in which pre-service teachers co-construct an interpretation of the student mathematical reasoning:
