2.1. ‘Best-practice’ vs. ‘best-fit’ models
In recent years, there has been a lively debate about the optimum ways in which
HRM can be utilized to contribute to a firm’s success. Two main approaches have
been proposed, one based on the ‘best fit’ or contingency school of strategic HRM and one based on the ‘best-practice’ school (see Boxall and Purcell, 2000, 2003 for a
really clear discussion and critique of both approaches).
