The function of the bandpass filter is based on the generator principle: Two voltage controlled current sources form a gyrator by vvhich a capacitor is transformed into an inductor. This allows for the design of high-q filter circuits. Since a symbolic analysis of the complete circuit on transistor level would not be feasible the task is hierarchically broken down into parts of reasonable size. First, the circuit is macro-modelled as shown in Figure 2 to calculate a symbolic expression for the transfer function of the entire system in terms of its macro block parameters (such as the transconductances of the VCCS stages). Later, the macro parameters will be computed symbolically as transfer functions of the analog building blocks which realize the individual macro functions.
