Tine is a farmer-owned cooperative; their core business is the development,
production and distribution of dairy products. Tine’s main
product is fresh milk, distributed in 1-litre cartons. As the largest player
in the Norwegian food market, the company generates an annual
turnover of US $1.6 billion and employs approximately 5,300 employees.
Unlike most other food manufacturers in Norway, Tine delivers its
products directly to the stores. Enabling this direct delivery operation is
the company’s involvement in a distribution partnership, ‘the Joint
Agricultural Fresh Food Distribution’. This partnership with two other
food manufacturers, Gilde and Prior, permits the transportation of Tine’s
products to each of Norway’s 4,500 food outlets. The products are transported
through common regional terminals. Each regional terminal is
owned by one of the three partners.
