Statistical analysis
Performance results were analysed with a two way ANOVA (Statistica 7.1, Statsoft).
Fixed factors were CF content, particle size and their interaction; replicate was
a random factor, and the experimental unit was the pen. For carcass measurements,
the experimental unit was the individual pig. Tukey’s post hoc test was used to explore
differences in growth performance and carcass measurements between the
four groups. The results of the urease test were analysed using a general linear
model with a binomial distribution and CF content, particle size and their interaction
as fixed factors. Macroscopic lesion scores for the four groups were compared
using non parametric Kruskall–Wallis tests, with CF content and particle size as
fixed factors.
