Deodorizing activity
The deodorizing activity of the CISE prepared under different
extraction conditions was evaluated against two odor compounds:
trans-2-nonenal and methyl mercaptan. trans-2-nonenal is an
unsaturated aldehyde produced from lipid oxidation, which gen-
erates an unpleasant greasy odor. It is known to be a major odor
component detected from the body of old people (Haze et al., 2001).
Methyl mercaptan (CH3SH) is one of the volatile sulfur compounds
with a putrid odor, which is known to be the major chemical
responsible for the bad breath caused by oral cavity (Lodhia et al.,
2008).
Figs. 1 and 2 show the deodorizing activity of the CISE against
trans-2-nonenal and methyl mercaptan, respectively. The volatile
amount of these odor compounds could be reduced by the CISE,
