Tantra largely disappeared in Cambodian courtly art after the time of Jayavarman VII (1180-1218).
• But in the ensuing era of Theravada Buddhism, some elements of Tantra seem to have survived in folk art, such as in tattooing.
• The use of mantras and ritualized practices in tattooing confers divine powers on the person receiving the imagery. This can be considered another dimension of divine embodiment.
