Dear Mr. Poul-Erik Hoyer, Mr. Thomas Lund, and Ms. Emma Mason,
REQUEST FOR SANCTION REDUCTION FOR MR. BODIN ISSARA
We refer to the incident on 22 July 2013 during the men's doubles final at the 2013 Canada Open Grand Prix whereby Bodin started an on court brawl with another Thai badminton player, Mr. Maneepong Jongjit.
From this incident, the BWF Disciplinary Committee issued a ruling dated 6 August 2013 that imposes sanctions on Mr. Issara, Bodin as follows:
He was suspended from all BWF sanctioned Badminton competitions for a period of two years (24 months) with an effective date of 21 July 2013.He shall forfeit world ranking points and prize money earned from the YONEX Canada Open 2013.
And the Badminton Association of Thailand (“BAT”) subsequently imposed the two-year suspension sanction on him taking effect from 27 July 2013.
Mr. Bodin Issara has now submitted a petition to BAT requesting that the remaining sanction imposed on him is reduced. Together with his submission, Bodin has also presented the photocopies evidencing that Bodin has constantly devoted himself for community services at different places in Thailand.
Upon our close supervision of Bodin’s behavior for almost a year after the above incident, we find that Bodin made animprovement of his behavior. Bodin seems to understand the reason that he was sanctioned and he regrets his action. He made a formal apology to all the parties concerned namely Thai people, Thai badminton players and the BAT through the press for the violence he caused.
Bodin went into the monkhood in accordance with the Buddhist belief to practice his mind for a certain period of time. After his ordination, Bodin started to offer a charity to the community services. Examples of these are that he devoted himself for so many kinds of community social services; he guided children and the young generation to have sportsmanship and to act in accordance with rules and regulations of each sport; he told the kids and the youth to love and play in harmony with each other; and he gave the children badminton classes at schools and badminton clubs regularly. Until now, Bodin still and constantly has provided the community services to public and the badminton community.
We have monitored his behaviors for a period of time and are convinced that Bodin’s behavior has improved and he tends to keep improving. We therefore brought the matter to the BAT Committee for reconsideration. The Committee has now unanimously agreed and resolved that Bodin’s remaining sanction shall be revoked in order to reward his effort in rectifying his failure and improving himself enabling him to continue with maintaining his moral spirit and a good role model like this.
With the above reasons, we are writing to request BWF to reconsider Bodin’s remaining sanction to either reduce or revoke it, for which Thai people would be highly grateful to your sympathy.
Yours faithfully,
