This paper has reviewed an interprofessional organizational
learning process which has resulted in
the successful institutionalization of global health
educational opportunities for students at UMB and
UMSON. UMB students from all professional schools
are now more able to develop global health competencies
both in the classroom and in resource-limited
settings abroad — though much remains to be done.
Over the last decade the capability to initiate, build,
and sustain interprofessional partnerships across
schools has been critically important. Collaborations
may exist at multiple levels: across countries, between
professional schools, among groups in a local setting,
and even between interprofessional students working
as a team. But collaborations between individuals
and organizations are not necessarily partnerships.39
