Brass orchestra alike amateur choirs are vividly important for the musical life of the City and Region. Since their inception brass orchestras were very close to traditional heavy industrial activities like coal mines and steel works, whose workers – amateur musicians — formed the ensembles. Regardless political, economic and social changes in the region, brass orchestras continue their longstanding tradition, though they’ve become mixed, multigenerational and more and more professional. Their sound is still present in Upper Silesia, accompanying the important and solemn moments in its residents’ lives.
