Transgenics is a branch of modern day biology concerned with the introduction of
exogenous genetic material from one species into another species in order to express a new or
improved trait, and for the new genetically modified organism (GMO) to pass that trait onto
progeny. The application of transgenics and the resultant GMOs in the food chain has been a very
emotive and controversial subject, eliciting strong debate including arguments for and against
genetically-modified food10. Some regulatory authorities, such as the European Food Safety
Authority (EFSA), have taken strong stands in regard to such foods
