The article focuses on the evaluation of Summer Reading Programs (SRPs) and their importance in encouraging reading among primary and secondary school children. It discusses literature pertaining to summer school programs and public library SRPs, and identifies several reasons why libraries need to create a reliable plan for evaluating their yearly SRP. Results of a survey designed to identify current public library attempts to evaluate the impact of SRPs, are presented. It also offers suggestions for improving the evaluation of SRPs.
