The effect of the different presumptive tests on DNA
quantification was evaluated at different times after applying
the reagents. The results can be observed in Fig. 1. DNA integrity in
untreated samples is only altered 120 days after collection (Fig. 1a)
(p < 0.001). The same result was observed in samples treated with
Luminol (Fig. 1b) (p < 0.001) and Bluestar1 Forensic (Fig. 1d)
(p < 0.001), indicating that these two reagents do not alter DNA
amount over time up to this period. Surprisingly, treatment with
Luminol 161 (Fig. 1c) resulted in considerable DNA degradation
already at day 7, with a significant difference at day 30 (p < 0.05).
Finally, benzidine (Fig. 1e) greatly degraded DNA already at 48 h
after treatment.
