the other kids in the school and I think that my class is the best… I feel sorry for the
other teachers because I have good students.
However, certain students felt that this unit gave them too much freedom, and as a result
they found it difficult to make important decisions about the course of their art work and folio.
This phenomenon often occurred when the student was not actively connected to or interested in
the content of their work, or was not as passionate about their final assessment product.
As a result of participating in this research, Yvonne, as the head of the Arts faculty,
presented her units to other teachers and shared the two innovative approaches she had designed
in collaboration with her students. Other teachers in the faculty were inspired by her approach
and also looked to adopt the process and products of collaborative learning design into their own
practices. As such, the implementation of this research helped to bring about positive changes in
the Arts faculty for the future.
