In addition to various goods, traditions have also been imported to Nagasaki, especially from China.
The most famous winter-time event held by the local Chinese is the Nagasaki Lantern Festival which starts from the Chinese New Year’s first day and lasts for two weeks.
From the evening of Feb. 19, Nagasaki will be lit up by 15,000 colorful lanterns in famous parts of town, such as Chinatown and Chuo Park. In addition to zodiac animal-shaped lanterns, giant lanterns will depict famous figures from Chinese history including Cao Cao and Confucius.
