Advertising for the Charisma luxury condo project launched four years ago in the Ekamai area said the construction of the 23-storey building with 326 residential units was due for completion this month.
Instead, customers who paid the developer a 50000 baht booking fee plus a down payment equivalent to 20% of the price of their unit have been left with nothing more than a big hole in the ground filled with water.
Yesterday , 31 customers of the project filed a complaint with the Depart-ment of Special Investigation accusing the construction firm of fraud. They say they have paid the project developer, Instyle Estate Ekkamai, a combined 28 million bath for units that have not been built
The grop yesterday handed their complaint to Sansern Palawatwichai, the commissioner of DSI’s Office of Consumer Protection and Environment Cases, alleging the developer had cheated them.
The group told Mr. Sansern they had asked Instyle Estate to return their booking fee and the down payment. The company told them it was having financial problems and could not return the money.
The group claimed the company had mortgaged the project’s land with a commercial bank to obtain a 280 million baht loan. They suspected the loan money was not being used used on the condominium project.
The group was convinced Instyle Estate had spent the money as well as their deposits and down payments on other real estate project.
Deputy DSI chief Suchart Wongananchai yesterday said the DSI will look into the allegations.
One Charisma customer has been successful in getting her money back.
That was well-known 26-year-old actress Paula Taylor who successfully forced the firm to return 1.88 million baht to her plus 7.5% annual interest after a civil court case.
