This study investigates the English used in online forum discussions relating to Thailand and Thai issues. Since lexical innovation is an important part of the adaptation of English to different contexts and varieties, the purpose is to identify lexical items that can potentially be seen as part of the vocabulary of ‘English for the Thai context’. Lexical items specific to Thai contexts were identified and compared across three Internet forums. They were then analyzed according to their method of assimilation into English use. The findings suggest that there are indeed words regularly used online in English-language discussions of Thai topics that may only be intelligible to English speakers with the relevant sociocultural knowledge. Borrowing from Thai was the most common method of integration.
