Chemically, water is a molecule consisting of two atoms of the gas oxygen. Pure water, at normal temperatures and pressures, is a tasteless and colourless liquid which lacks any kind of smell. The water we drink, which comes from the water supply, does have a taste because it contains minerals which have dissolved init when it passed through rocks as groundwater. Water is a very good solvent and is able to dissolve more solids than many other liquids. Water is also good for cleaning because it dissolves dirt. Heating it and adding soap or detergent increases its efficiency. Water is the main component of blood and many substances are carried around the body in this watery liquid. Water also helps to remove some body wastes in the form of another liquid, urine. Water helps animals to keep cool because when animals sweat or pant, the water evaporates, and removes some of their body heat.
