Case study research has been employed to examine early intervention organizations in Beijing. According to Yin,case study is an empirical inquiry that investigates a contemporary phenomenon within its real life context. The distinctive need for case studies arises from the desire to understand complex social phenomena. Given its emphasis on “real-life context" and "complex social phenomena," case study is an appropriate method for the current research on grassroots service organizations and their interactions with the government in a changing institutional context.
