The relaxation
benefi ts of Yoga therapy for energy conservation can be
of great signifi cance, as patients are often performing at
near maximal energy output levels. The provider’s Yoga
practice also increases sensitivity to interdisciplinary team
consults. Classically, the functional goal of the Yogi was the elimination of postural sway, and from this practice come
the objective measures of increased fl exibility, strength,
and balance/postural stability—all the more important for
the patient and the family’s “posture” in the unfamiliar
world of the dying process.
