Silk fibroin (SF) is one of the natural fibrous proteins used
as a biomaterial for various biomedical applications .
It is one of the two proteins secreted by silk
worm with the other one being sericin. It consists of an amino
acid sequence (Gly–Ser–Gly–Ala–Gly–Ala)n. Due to the excellent
biocompatibility, biodegradability and mechanical strength, SF has
been fabricated into various forms like sponges, gels, films and
nanofibers for tissue engineering purposes
