The online coupling of SP techniques with LC could be traced
from the hyphenation of solid phase extraction (SPE) to liquid
chromatography (LC) in the early 1980s [4]. Since then, the online
coupling techniques have received much attention and been widely
applied in many analytical projects. Nowadays, there have been
more than four hundreds original papers on online SP techniques
coupled with LC in the past ten years, including SPE, solid phase
microextraction (SPME), microextraction in packed syringe (MEPS),
stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE), liquid phase microextraction
(LPME), microdialysis (MD), dialysis, accelerated solvent extraction
(ASE), microwave assisted extraction (MAE), ultrasonic assisted
extraction (UAE) and supercritical fluids extraction (SFE). Although
most of the papers use SPE and SPME while the others are in minority,
there is an increasing trend in this field.
