In 1946, the Research Center for Group Dynamics, under the direction of Kurt Lewin of MIT, sponsored an intergroup Relations workshop.
The following year, Lewin's associates organized another workshop during which participants spent most of the day meeting with a trainer and observer. Throughout the sessions, participants gave and received feedback on their own and other group member's behavior.
These group which were called Basic Skill Training Groups eventually evolved into what are now known as T-groups.
