Although the Commission Regulation (EC) N 1881/2006 does not provide limits for MeHgþ concentration, total Hg limits of 0.5 mg kg1 and 1mg kg1 are given for distinct seafood (according to seafood type) (Commission Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006). The Brazilian Normative Instruction N 14 (May 2009) regulates the maximum level of total Hg in fish farming and predator fish.
