Artisanal miners accounted for most of the production at Montepuez; illegal mining operations continued on MRM's concession from 2009 through 2012. Between June and September 2012, about 4,000 miners produced at Namujo/Torro, which was part of MRM's concession. After being evicted, many artisanal miners moved to Nacaca, which was a newly discovered deposit located about 10 km southeast of MRM's concession. In November 2011, Mozambique Gems Ltd. produced gem-quality aquamarine at Mavuco in northern Mozambique. Garnet was produced at the mechanized Cuamba Mine. Other gemstones mined in Mozambique included amazonite, dumortierite, and topaz
