This report is a summary of my activities as an intern with the Riverside Corona
Resource Conservation District (RCRCD) from April 7, 2010 until February 1, 2011.
This internship fulfilled my research requirement to earn a MasterUs degree in
Environmental Science from the Institute of Environmental Sciences (IES) at Miami
University. During my internship I worked with Dr. Arlee Montalvo, a restoration
ecologist with RCRCD. My internship focused on a portion of a full project entitled
Plant Choice and Small Farm Model for Production of Local Native Plant Materials
Based on Alluvial Scrub Vegetation of the Upper Santa Ana River Watershed. Much of
my work focused on vegetation sampling of alluvial scrub habitat in Riverside and San
Bernardino Counties. In addition to vegetation sampling, I performed other activities
such as data entry and proofreading, seed collection and processing, assisting with
species identification and nomenclature, and monitoring of restoration sites.
