Member economies appear to be effectively protecting consumers from cybercrime and other
deceptive business practices while ensuring that their legal and regulatory environments do not
suppress competition or development. In response to the SCFAP Chokepoints Questionnaire,most economies indicated that their governments monitored consumer complaints of risk in regard to online transactions. Fourteen economies reported that a governmental body existed that tracked consumer complaints of online risk or insecurity. Several member economies that affirmatively responded also noted that multiple agencies in fact tracked such complaints. In the Republic of Korea, the Ministry of Security and Public Administration, the Korea Communications Commission and the Personal Information Incident Report Center of the Korea Internet & Security Agency all handle consumer complaints. In addition, regulations are in place to ensure the rights of online consumer in the region. Twelve economies reported that their governments maintained consumer protection laws relative to online threats.
