The strawberries were fumigated with NO at 1
and 5 ml l−1 for 2 h then stored in air containing
0.1 ml l−1 ethylene at 20 and 5°C. At both temperatures,
1 ml l−1 NO significantly extended
postharvest life over that of fruit held continuously
in air by about 50% at both temperatures
while the use of 5 ml l−1 at 20°C gave a further
increase in postharvest life to about 130% over
control fruit but there was no additional signifi-
cant effect at 5°C (PB0.01) (Table 1
