Inreach. The inreach intervention was, likewise, multifaceted and included:
(1) individualized provider training sessions in the clinical breast examination and Pap smear using a patient model, as well as updates on recommended screening procedures and their periodicity
(2) the institution of a computer-based reminder system for primary care providers
(3) a voluntary educational session for providers on cross-cultural and cross-gender communication.
The computer reminder system was planned and implemented with the assistance of the San Francisco Department of Health Services, Management Information Systems (MIS) Department. These interventions were in place over a 3-year period from 1993 through 1995. The inreach intervention was directed to the providers and was not tailored to the race/ethnicity of the clinic population.
