Wat Phanan Cherng,Luang Phor To which was built 26 years before the foundation of the city, belongs to the second period of the U-Thong style. The real Ayutthaya style began about the middle of the 15th century in the
Reign of King Boromtrailokanart.

Guide: The second sub-period was developed in the
last 15th century. The Buddha statues develoopd in this
sub-period were influenced by the Sukhothai style,but
Sometime U-Thong characteristics could be seen. The
Facial expression is usually lifeless, uncomparable to Sukhothai images.
Tourist: when did the third sub-period start?
Guide: When Cambodia became onec more a vassal
state of the reigh of King Prasat Thong (1629-1656). Thai artists tried to imitate Khmer works of art. Buddha images were carved from sandstone. The most import characteristics are doudle lips or a faint moustache over the mouth.
Tourist: How about those of the fourth sub-period
Guide: During the late Ayutthaya period, crowned Buddha images were very popular. They are either profusely decorated or wear only a diadem and ear-rings. The former are called Song Khreung Yai and the
latter are called Song Kreung Noi.
