In Swedish pediatric clinics, the cardiac liaison nurse works as a contact person for fanmilies with a child with congenital heart disease. The liaison nurse, who is a member of an Interdisciplinary team, meets parents of children age 0-18 years. One of the main nursing interventions for the liaison nurse is to support the parents (Holmes, 1996). It is easy to presume that parents of children with complex congenital heart disease experience more stress than do parents of children with less severe cardiac malformations. Accordingly, the liaison nurse usually schedules more time and offers more support to families of children with a complex congenital heart disease as compared to families of children with a minor congenital heart disease.
