Later that afternoon, Ulrich and Marianne tied large bundles of hay together and lifted them onto their backs They set off down towards Zermatt. An hour and a half later they entered the village, left the hay under their house and walked to their cousin's hotel, the Monte Rosa. Ulrich knew that he would be able to find his English mountaineer there; the Hotel Monte Rosa was the m place for the English gentlemen climbers, and was the place where the local guides were hired and many climbs were planned.
